Moment As Flight Turns
Back After Take Off
Yesterday afternoon, 99
passengers of a Taca
flight to Cancun,
Mexico, lived some tense
moments as the airplane
was turned back moments
after it left the runway
at Juan Santamaría (San
José) international
airport.
The pilot of the Airbus
320 decided to turn back
two minutes after taking
off after detecting fire
in one of the engines.
The flight landed
without a problem and no
injuries were reported
save some frayed nerves.
According to the
airline, the passengers
of the charter flight
boarded another aircraft
a couple of hours later
and taken to their
destination.
An investigation by the
Instituto Nacional de
Seguros (INS), the
Dirección General de
Aviación Civil and the
airline is underway to
determine the exact
cause of the problem
with the motor.
Alterra, the airport
manager, said the
incident caused no
delays in airport
