Bolivian Army Called to Respect
Laws
Bolivian President Evo Morales
called on the Armed Forces to
fulfill its constitutional role
to serve the nation, defend
national integrity and
contribute to the dignity of the
people.
The government will not demand
that the Armed Forces become
members of the governing party,
but it will demand that it honor
the institution, said the
dignitary in Wednesday´s
ceremony to bestow the saber to
15 new generals.
In a brief speech to soldiers
and officers of a capital
military unit, Morales asserted
that if being at the service of
the Bolivian people is an honor
for the promoted officers, then
they were more than welcome.
Gen. William Vargas, chief of
the Bolivian Armed Forces, also
demanded respect and loyalty to
the legally established
political order from the new
generals.
The pride felt by those who have
assumed this high position is
shared by the entire
institution, but particularly by
my command seeing in this new
generation, a renewed body of
generals he remarked.
In the ceremony, the president
bestowed the saber to seven
generals of the Army, four of
the Air Force and four rear
admirals of the Navy.
