Cuba - Panama Relations Highlighted
Cuban National Assembly President Ricardo Alarcon highlighted the brilliant relations between his country and Panama, which, he said, would make the late dignitary Omar Torrijos proud.

Alarcon received Panama s President Martin Torrijos at the National People s Power Assembly where they dialogued on the wide perspectives of bilateral exchange and collaboration.

Gen. Omar Torrijos (1929-1981) would feel very happy to see the present moment of relations between Cuba and Panama, Alarcon told the visiting delegation.

Martin Torrijos, whose father governed the nation from 1968 to 1978, is carrying out a working visit to the island accompanied by a delegation composed of Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Vallarino, Ambassador to Havana Anel Omar Rodriguez and other officials.

In the meeting, the Panamanian president expressed appreciation to Cuba for facilitating the professional training of Panamanians in the island, particularly for the graduation of 93 doctors from the Havana Latin American School of Medicine.

Similarly, he expressed the interest of his administration to diversify and consolidate bilateral cooperation in the fields of health, education, science and technology.

Torrijos defined the immediate cooperation priorities while Ricardo Cabrisas, Cuban minister of government, expressed his confidence that the visit of the Central American president would contribute to firm up political and diplomatic relations.
