Protests to Be Prepared for Bush
Visit
Social, humanitarian and human
rights organizations together
with institutions in defense of
the rights of migrants announced
a campaign against the visit of
US President George W. Bush to
Guatemala.
Orlando Blanco, leader of the
Social Organizations Collective
(COS) said they would protest
together with other sectors
against the visit of Bush.
"Bush is not welcome in
Guatemala, because he has been
one of the main fosterers of
anti-migration policies
affecting and violating the
rights of thousands of
countrymen in US," he said.
Blanco made a summary of the
damages caused in the country by
the Free Trade Agreement which
effects are noticed among small
producers in the fields, and the
workers of informal economic
sectors.
The Guatemalan Catholic Church
issued a statement in which it
said it was sorry that Bush's
visit is not to talk about the
situation of illegal people in
US national territory.
Also, it worries that the new US
Congress is not paying the
necessary attention to the
migratory agenda.
President of Guatemala Oscar
Berger confirmed the visit of
Bush to Guatemala for next
month, as part of a Latin
American tour.
