33 Traffic Deaths So Far
This Month
With only days to close
off the month, 16 deaths
have been registered
resulting from
aggressions with a knife
or gun. However, 33
deaths were a result of
traffic accidents.
The Cruz Roja (Red
Cross) says it has also
attended to 10 deaths
resulting from water
accidents at the
country's beaches.
The Cruz Roja is on full
alert the next couple of
days as the rush to get
home from the beaches
and resorts begins today
and continues into
Tuesday.
The Policía de Tránsito
(traffic police) will be
out in full force to
keep an eye on traffic,
spotting drunker drivers
and pulling over
careless drivers, in an
effort to keep the drive
home safe.
The major roads of
concentration of heavy
traffic will be the
Interamericana highway
coming from Guanacaste,
the Braulio Carrillo
from Limón and the route
from Quepos/Jacó that
crosses the Monte
Aguacate and onto the
Bernardo Soto. The
Interamericana Sur from
the southern zone to San
José is also expected to
be busy.
Making the ride home
worse for those
returning from Quepos/Manuel
Antonio is the bridge
construction at Parrita,
which has backed up
traffic for up to three
hours, making the 3.5
hour trip to San José a
total nightmare.
The only alternative to
the route 34 is the
Quepos - Dominical
route, which is under
construction in some
parts and almost
untransitable in others,
converting the 44
kilometre route into a
two hour experience.
Authorities recommend
heading home early to
avoid the heavy traffic
expected on Tuesday,
don't drink and drive,
keep your distance from
other vehicles and arm
yourself with a lot of
