Cheaper Gasoline In January
The new year will bring cheaper gasoline prices when a drop of ˘12 colones per litre for the price of super and ˘8 colones per litre of regular takes effect.

The Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope) requested the decrease last December 14 and will take effect by mid January when the notice will be published in the official government publication La Gaceta.

However, users of diesel must prepare for another hike, this time ˘7 colones per litres more.

The long delay between request, approval and price change is due to the Christmas holiday season.

The current prices at the pumps for a litre of gasoline is: super ˘574, regular ˘559 and diesel ˘513.

The new prices, when in effect, will be: ˘561 for super, ˘551 for regular and ˘520 for diesel.

The drop is due to the recent lowering of the exchange rate between the colon and the dollar and small drop in the price of crude oil on international markets during the past 30 days.
