Petrocaribe Meeting:
Sign of New Times
The national council
coordinator of Mexican
PRD (Democratic
Revolution Party),
Camilo Valenzuela,
affirmed Monday that the
recent Petrocaribe
Summit in Cuba is an
indicator of the new
times in which Latin
America is living.
In an interview with
Prensa Latina,
Valenzuela pointed out
that the meeting showed
the open possibilities
for regional countries,
as is also happening
with the creation of the
Bank of the South,
Telesur, and the
existence of the
Southern Common Market.
They are initiatives
bringing Latin American
integration forward with
specific projects in
several fields, thus
ending submission to
transnationals and
policies imposed by the
United States on the
continent, he
emphasized.
Valenzuela, who aspires
to the PRD leadership in
the internal elections
in March, said new US
actions are expected as
it attempts to recover
its dominance in the
region.
They will spare no
effort to prevent Latin
American and Caribbean
nations from joining
together, and "as soon
as possible we should
get rid of the
transnationals," the
