Caribbean Coast Pounded

while the Central Valley
woke up with rain and
strong winds on
Christmas day, the
residents of the
province of Limón were
hit with flooding as
almost 10 inches of rain
fell on the area since
Monday, according to the
national weather
reports.
The rain, for the most
part, ended by mid day
yesterday. However,
water levels in the
rivers rose quickly,
some overflowing their
banks.
The Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE) said
the most affected areas
were in Matina,
Siquirres, Talamanca and
Limón Centro.
Highway 32, the main
road between San José
and Limón, as well as
some of the alternate
routes were affected by
the heavy rain and
overflowing rivers.
The Instituto
Meteorologico Nacional (IMN)
- national weather
service - predicts
normal conditions in the
area beginning in the
afternoon today.
While it is the dry
season in most of Costa
Rican, the Caribbean
zone that includes the
province of Limón and
Heredia, normally have
their worst rains during
the month of December
and into the early part
of January. |
