Panama Doctors Strike is
Over
The 5,000 physicians of
Panama's public
hospitals ended their
strike demanding better
salaries and better work
conditions, after
reaching an agreement
with the government to
end the protest.
The solution for the
nearly 39-day strike was
achieved at midnight
during a meeting of
directors of National
Medical Negotiating
Commission (COMENENAL)
with Health Minister
Rosario Turner.
The agreement includes
wage increases
equivalent to 26.8
percent.
The complete
normalization of
services in hospitals,
polyclinics and health
centres of the Health
Minister (Minsa) and
Social Security will
begin on Monday.
Turner said the
salary increases range
us$125 dollars for
interns us$500 for
specialists.
The Health minister
expressed satisfaction
for the end of the
crisis, and said the new
pact reached,
allows an investment in
human capital to begin
improving in public
