Ortega Challenges US to
Drug Fight
Nicaraguan President
Daniel Ortega left
Wednesday for Guatemala,
where he will urge the
US to invest millions if
it really wants to solve
the drug problem.
During a graduation
ceremony of Army cadets,
the president emphasized
his government's policy
to face that scourge,
and affirmed ó they will
not help us, the drug
trafficking problem is
theirs, drugs are
consumed in the US. That
is there where the money
for drugs is. ó
The Sandinista leader
considers the flow of
drugs towards the US
market bad for regional
countries, where there
is not much consumption.
Ortega noted that he was
asking them, on behalf
of Central America, to
invest one billion
dollars, which is
nothing compared to the
large US funds for the
war in Iraq,
Afghanistan, and other
regions.
Once in Guatemala, where
he will attend the 31st
Summit of Chiefs of
State of the Central
American Integration
System (SICA), Ortega
will spare no efforts
seeking unity among
regional leaders to
fight drug trafficking. |
