SICA Summit Starts in
Guatemala
The 31st Summit of the
Central American
Integration System (SICA)
began in Guatemala City
Wednesday with the
attendance of the six
presidents of the
Central American area
and representatives of
Belize and the Dominican
Republic.
The presidents will sign
the judicial framework
for the Central American
Customs Union, one of
the requisites to
continue negotiations
for an association
agreement with the
European Union.
The agenda of the
meeting includes other
topics of the
integration process and
security.
Besides the President of
Guatemala Oscar Berger,
attending are Antonio
Saca (El Salvador),
Manuel Zelaya
(Honduras), Oscar Arias
(Costa Rica), Daniel
Ortega (Nicaragua) and
Martín Torrijos
(Panama).
John Briceno is
representing Belize
Prime Minister Said Musa,
and Juan Guiliani takes
part representing
Dominican President
Leonel Fernandez.
At the end of the event,
Berger will deliver the
pro-tempore presidency
of SICA to President
Antonio Saca of El
