Ecuador Assembly Starts

The National Constituent
Assembly in Ecuador
starts labors Monday as
a full powered
institution.
Alberto Acosta,
president of the
Constituent Assembly,
stated Sunday that the
country will determine
the assembly members'
working rules and did
not discard the
possibility of also
adopting new
resolutions.
The bylaws must be drawn
up and approved in about
seven days, because so
far the behavior of 130
members from that body
is controlled by a
temporary set of
guidelines instated
during Thursday's first
session.
The Country Alliance
Movement, with 80 seats
in the Constituent
Assembly, has a working
rules draft, to be
presented by the
minority.
After approving those
guidelines, the
Assembly, whose mission
is to draw up a new
constitution and reform
the State's
institutions, will
create the 10 working
commissions.
This concern in
constituent tables with
13 members each,
includes Development,
Fundamental Rights,
Territorial Order, Work
and Production, and a
Legislative Model.
In Thursday's first
session, the full
powered Assembly
ratified President
Rafael Correa in his
post and suspended the
National Congress for an
indefinite period. |
