Downpour Hits San José
Hard
The heavy downpour of
yesterday afternoon
surprise many,
especially drivers along
the highways were
visibility was almost
zero in some cases and
flash flooding occurred
in many areas.
The rain began shortly
before 2:00pm in Cartago,
east of San José and
moved slowly west,
drowing everything in
its path with a heavy
downpour and strong
winds.
During the downpour, San
José became dark, as a
dark grey cloud hung
over the capital,
illuminated the constant
lightening and thunder
drowing out the noise of
normal city traffic.
Some areas reported
hail.
In areas like La Uruca,
18 homes were affected
by a landslide, as some
100 people had to
evacuate their homes
temporarily.
In Tibás, water flooded
the streets. In San
Pedro, in front of the
San Pedro mall, the main
street became a small
lake. In Alajuela, a man
was reported missing.
September and October
are the months with the
largest amount of
rainfall and these last
few days of August are
just a preview of what
is to come.
