Abel Pacheco Home After
Prostate Surgery
Former president Abel
Pacheco, who will be 74
years of age on December
22, left the Hospital
Calderón Guardia
yesterday following
prostate surgery on
Thursday.
As part of his recovery,
the former president,
among other
recommendations, has to
drink at least 12
glasses of water daily,
not to lift any heavy
objects and restrain
himself from having sex.
Doctors have also asked
the former president not
to drive and take
antibiotics during the
coming days and back for
a checkup in six weeks.
Pacheco thanked the
staff at the hospital
for their cordiality and
called on all Costa
Rican men over the age
of 40 to submit to a
prostate examination.
"It is better to get
tested than later to be
sorry to have prostate
cancer", said Pacheco.
"I went to a 'hospital
de seguridad social'
(social security
hospital) because they
are the best in the
world. Every time I have
been in the hospital I
have been convinced of
the quality and
professionalism of the
personnel who work at
those medical centres",
said the former
president.
Unlike other former
president, Abel Pacheco
prefers to visit and be
treated by doctors of
the hospitals run by the
Caja Costarricense de
Seguro Social (CCSS),
specifically the
Calederón Guardia,
rather than the private
hospitals.
