Tránsito
Official Shot Dead By
Motorist
For the second time in
less than a week an
official of the Policía
de Tránsito had found
death on the country's
roads.
This time, Alexander
Murillo Vega, lost his
life yesterday when shot
by a motorist he had
pulled over who later
took his live less than
an hour after the
incident that occurred
in Barranca de
Puntarenas.
Murillo was stationed
near the Recope plant
east of the town of
Puntarenas when he
pulled over a Hyundai
whose driver was acting
suspiciously, when the
man stepped out of his
car and began firing at
the official.
The man then fled the
scene and some 30
minutes later a report
came in to the Fuerza
Pública (police) of the
body of a dead man who
had been shot in the
head. The man was
identified as Manuel
Carvajal Acosta and
driving the vehicle that
had been pulled over by
Murillo. The death was
being called a suicide,
as evidence pointed to
the man pulling the
trigger on himself.
When the Cruz Roja (Red
Cross) arrived on the
scene, Murillo was dead
from three gunshots -
one to the head, the
stomach and an arm.
Earlier this week,
Tránsito official,
Fernando Berrios Ruiz,
was killed when a 30Kg
rock fell on his patrol
vehicle on the Braulio
Carrillo highway. The
official had parked his
vehicle on the side of
the road for a break
when the rock came down
from the mountain wall,
hitting the roof of the
patrol vehicle and
hitting Berrios on the
head.
Berrios stumbled out of
the vehicle and
collapsed. A passing
trucker, using the
patrol vehicle radio,
call for help, but it
was too late when the
Cruz Roja arrived. |
