Lorin Hollander,
Pianist, Speaker,
Educator Coming To Costa
Rica
One the considered best
pianist in the world,
Lorin Hollander, will be
visiting Costa Rica to
promote music education,
according to the
ministra de cultura
juventud y deportes
(MCJD), Elena Carballo.
Carballo made the
announcement yesterday,
saying that Hollander
will be launching a
campaign to raise money
for the national musci
instituto to open new
schools around the
country.
The goal of the campagin
is to open 12 schools
and improve the existing
nine schools as well as
provide musical
instruments for the
schools.
The campaign hopes to
raise us$500.000 and is
seeking additional
funding from the Banco
Interamericano de
Desarrollo (BID) which
has financed similar
projects in South
America, namely
Venezuela and Colombia.
Hollander is from New
York city, wher he
debuted at the Carnegie
Hall at the age of 11.
Hollander, over his 50
year career, has played
with Berlin Philharmonic
and the London
Philharmonic among many
others.
