After Truck Hits
Watermain
The ruptured water main
running along the bridge
west of Casa
Presidencial in Zapote
caused a tremendous
traffic nightmare for
thousands of motorists
who travel the
cirncuvalación from San
Pedro to Zapote and
thousands of area
residents who were left
without water until
later yesterday
afternoon.
The water main running
under the bridge broke
over the southbound
lanes of the
circuvalación, causing
the complete closure of
the southbound lanes
from the early evening
hours of Tuesday night.
The AyA work crews had
to shut water service to
the area, while the
Policía de Tránsito had
to reroute traffic
around the closure,
collapsing traffic along
Avenida 10 crossing San
José as motorists tried
to avoid the
circunvalación to get to
points west.
The damage left 140.000
residents of Colego Don
Bosco, barrio Luján,
Vasconia, Córdoba, Plaza
Víquez, Cristo Rey and
barrio Amón without
water. Other areas like
downtwon San José,
Zapote, Bella Vista,
barrio Bolívar, and the
area around the Asamblea
Legislativa experienced
water problems
throughout the day.
Roosevelt Alvarado,
services manager at AyA,
said that a high truck
struck the water 500
millimetre (20 inch)
main running under the
bridge.
Luis Fernando Guevara,
an AyA engineer said he
has never seen anything
like it in his 30 years
of experience.
