Ortega Warns against
US Drug Operations in
Nicaragua
President Daniel Ortega
warned that he will not
allow the US Drug
Enforcement Agency to
mount operations against
international drug
trafficking in
Nicaraguan soil.
"One has to be very
careful with those DEA
operations, because some
times, operations are
mounted with unforeseen
interests that go beyond
the struggle against
drug trafficking," he
noted.
The Nicaraguan president
made his remarks while
closing the activities
to mark the 27th
anniversary of the
country's Naval Force.
In his opinion, drug
enforcement operations
in Nicaragua have to be
carried out by local
police and armed forces.
Nicaragua, like most of
Central America, is used
by international drug
traffickers as transit
for the drug bound for
the US, the world's
largest market, he
recalled. |
