Ombudswoman Says
Immigration Centre
Conditions Deplorable;
Shipwrecked Chinese On
Their Way Home Today
The Defensora de los
Habitantes (Ombudswoman)
Lizbeth Quesada said
yesterday that she finds
the conditions at the "albergue
de Migración"
(immigration centre) in
Hatillo deplorable,
citing a number of
irregularities at the
detention centre.
The director of the
Policía de Migración
(immigration police),
Francisco Castaing, said
he recognized the
housing problems at the
centre and are doing the
best they can to make
the conditions as
livable as possible.
The Defensora's remarks
were made one day before
the repatriation
movement of 62 Chinese
nationals who began
boarding a series of
flights on their way
home. The Orientals are
part of the group
shipwrecked several
months ago and have been
housed at the
immigration centre
waiting on China to pay
the cost of sending them
home.
The first flight taking
the first group of 12
Chinese nationals left
the Juan Santamaría
international airport
early this morning on a
TACA flight. The move is

and the way immigrants
