Panama Addresses
Youth Drug Addiction
Youth drug addition is
the focus of a
conference convened by
the Panamanian Congress
with some 500
specialists and
legislators from Cuba,
Spain, Colombia, Mexico
and the United States.
The agenda also involved
fighting trafficking,
money laundering and
terrorism.
Congressman Carlos
Alvarado, chairman of
the Anti-Drug Committee,
warned of the rising
number of young
consumers who are
starting at younger
ages.
In his closing address
Education Minister
Miguel Angel Canizales
said a resent inquiry at
public and private
schools shows that
teenagers start
consuming drugs when
they are between 12 and
16 years old.
Canizales noted the need
for every sector to be
involved in this social
problem since the
children blame their
addition on school
failure or to have fun
with friends. |
