Fidel Castro: Major ALBA Precursor, Nicaraguan Leader Says
Cuban President Fidel Castro is the main forerunner of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA), affirmed Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, who will take part in the fifth ALBA summit beginning Saturday in Venezuela.

After inaugurating last night the first of the three ophthalmologic centers donated by Cuba, Ortega recalled that since the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, the Island has taken solidarity worldwide.

The Sandinista leader noted that ongoing ALBA projects will be assessed in the summit and new cooperation plans agreed upon.

Ortega proclaimed his country´s adhesion to ALBA on January 10, the same day he took office.
