Another 8 Ecuadorian legislators flee to Colombia
A further eight dismissed Ecuadorian congressmen fled to Colombia to escape the "political persecution" by President Rafael Correa's government, local media reported on Thursday.

The ousted Ecuadorian legislators had reportedly met with local officials after arriving in the Colombian border city of Ipiales earlier Thursday, but whether or not they would seek political asylum remained unknown.

The eight political exiles, who are among the 24 deposed Ecuadorian deputies on the run, followed at the heels of their former associates in the Congress who asked for political asylum from the Colombian government on Wednesday.

The rest of the runaways, local media said, would show up in Colombia in the next few days.

Earlier this month, Ecuadorian prosecutors put two dozens ousted opposition deputies on the wanted list on charges of disregarding authority and threatening national security.
