Arias Get Bad Grade For First
Year in Office
Costa Ricans have given
president Óscar Arias Sánchez a
poor grade for his first year in
office. According to a poll
taken by the Instituto de
Estudios Sociales en la
Población (Idespo) of the
Universidad Nacional, (UNA),
Arias was given a 6.5 grade.
President Arias completes his
first year in office on May 8.
The study also reveals that 44%
of the population give the
government a grade below 7
points, while 39% of the
poluation give a grade of 7 and
8 and only 17% give more than 9
points.
Some of the negative reasons are
that Costa Ricans for the low
points is that they feel that
the government has done nothing
and that all is the same as
before and that promises have
not been fulfilled and it is not
able to govern.
As to the actions of president
Arias, only 38.7% of Costa
Ricans said that he has been
able to "make decisions and is
capable of governing"
