Arias Invites Ortega To Costa Rica
The Fundación Arias para la Paz (Arias foundation for peace) sent an invitation to Nicaragua's president, Daniel Ortega, to participate in the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Acuerdos de Paz de Esquipulas, Guatemala, that brought peace to Central America.

The ceremony will be held in August, though a definite date has yet to be set, according to sources at Casa Presidencial.

Oscar Arias was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for his role in the peace agreement.

The new Nicaraguan ambassador to Costa Rica, Harold Rivas, presented his credential to president Arias and told him of Ortega's interest in the bilateral meeting.

The relationship between the two countries is not going through one of its best periods in history as the conflict over the navigation rights of the San Juan river continues to make its way before the International Court at the Hague.

And earlier this month, the capture of a Costa Rican vessel by the Nicaraguan armed forces, who allege the boat was in Nicaraguan waters, sparked a conflict over the maritime border between the countries, which Costa Rica is asking the United Nations to send a team of experts to properly define it, along with the border in the Caribbean Sea, which is being rejected by president Ortega.

"We cannot permit they come to define the border that already included in bilateral agreements", said Ortega, adding that the UN proposal is a threat to Nicaragua's sovereignty and defense of its waters.

Costa Rica's foreign minister, Bruno Stagno, proposed last week to his Nicaraguan counterpart, Samuel Santos, the asking of a team of three experts from the UN to settle the maritime border dispute, following the April 10 incident.

Both countries are claiming that the Costa Rican vessel was in their waters.
