NO MORE POWER CUTS, ICE Promises
Following Friday's decision to continue the rotating electrical power cuts, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) guaranteed yesterday that there will not, repeat not, be any more power outages.

The ICE has decided to suspend its planned power cuts in defined areas all over the country in a bid to provide sufficient power as it struggles to repair the damaged thermal generators and the effects of the dry season.

According to communication by the institution, during the weekend a great number of ICE employees were working at solving the problems and the inconveniences and were able to repair a major part of the problems in generators at unit 1 at Barranca and unit 3 at San Antonio de Belén.

The two generators produce some 17 Megawatt of electrical power each and at yesterday morning the generator problems at unit 6 at Moín, which produce 33 Megawatts of power, were also rectified.

ICE still has problems at the plants, but the repairs over the weekend mean ensure no power cuts and "normalize" the flow of electrical service, according to the ICE communication.

José Joaquín Azofeifa, Director General de Producción de electricidad, said that the repaired units are now back online and part of the power network.

ICE has organized a series of planned power cuts, sending a directive to all retail power suppliers, like the Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL) to set up a program of planned power cuts for the week as the institution would only able to supply 40% of the power supply.
