Super Gas Hike Approved
Though it had until May 4 to
make a decision, the Autoridad
Reguladora de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep) yesterday
approved the requested ¢35
colones for the cost of a litre
of super gasoline.
The request was made by the
Refinadora Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope) in its never
ending rounds of price hikes,
justifying its requests based on
low reserves in the United
States.
The price hike will not hit the
pumps until it is published in
the official government
publication, La Gaceta, which is
required to do so within five
worikng days, meaning the latest
day for the increase to take
effect will be next Thursday,
April 26.
The increase is also on Av-Gas,
which will jump ¢61 colones;
diesel, which jump by ¢13
colones and natural compressed
gas, which is used for cooking
in most Costa Rican homes, ¢12
colones.
The price on regular gasoline
will stay put in this increase,
as Recope has made a separate
request, which is being analyzed
by the Aresep, for a ¢40 colones
a litre increase.
The new price of super gasoline
at the pumps will be ¢568 and
diesel ¢375.
