Daniel Ortega Salutes Fidel Castro
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega sent a greeting to his Cuban counterpart, Fidel Castro, on the 46th anniversary of the Cuban victory at Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), and he urged punishment for terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.

"We unite our hearts with the Cuban people on this anniversary, and we demand the US punish terrorist Luis Posada Carriles and immediately release the Cuban Five," said the letter from the Sandinista leader, published by digital newspaper La Voz del Sandinismo and radio station La Nueva Radio Ya.

Ortega recalled that the invasion was financed by the US government to try to overturn the Cuban Revolution in 1961, not only sailing from Nicaraguan coasts, but bid good-bye by then Nicaraguan Dictator Anastasio Somoza.

He also pointed out the links of Luis Posada Carriles with the administration of then US President Ronald Reagan against the Sandinista Revolution in the 80s.

The Nicaraguan president expressed the support of his government for the international demands that Posada be tried for his crimes, especially the 1976 bombing of a Cuban civil plane with 73 passengers on board.

He demanded the liberation of the Cuban Five, whom he regarded as tireless fighters who do not submit or sell themselves.

Ortega signed the letter to Fidel Castro "with the respect and affection of always," also expressing his adhesion to "the elevated and free ideas that in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world are led by Fidel Castro Ruz."
