Nicaraguan Link to Mexican
Cartel on the Run
Nicaraguan police are searching
for Nicaraguan Carlos Cisnado
believed to be the kingpin of
the maritime platform
constructed by the Mexican
Sinaloa drug cartel in
Nicaragua.
This platform was dismantled a
few days ago, according to
Assistant Commissioner Cesar
Cuadra, Nicaraguan police press
chief, who said Cisnado was the
link for the purchase of several
properties along the Nicaraguan
Pacific coast, useful for the
cocaine trade coming from South
America.
In Cisnado s houses in
Nicaragua, police found an M-1
carbine and a great amount of
ammunition Sunday, and a
motorboat, possibly for
drug-traffic, in another.
Cisnado was also the link
between Mexican Jose Juvenal
Mendoza and the owner of a farm
some 42 miles north of the
Nicaraguan capital, where a
clandestine runway was
discovered.
Mendoza was identified as one of
the heads of the Sinaloa cartel,
and was arrested Friday with
another four Mexican citizens
while in a vehicle on the Pan
American Highway.
After the arrests, police
conducted several operations
over the weekend and arrested 26
people, among them a Mexican and
two Guatemalan citizens.
Also among the arrested was one
who was designated to
assassinate Nicaraguan Police
Chief Aminta Granera, who had
reported death threats some
weeks ago.
In 2006, the Nicaraguan police
seized more than 10 tons of
cocaine.
