Salvadoran Authorities Seek Fugitives
The Salvadoran National Civil Police (PNC) Division for Fulfilling Judicial Orders (DCJ) announced Thursday it planned by the end of this year to capture 20,000 people, who have been fugitive since 2003.

The DCJ plan is to go international as well as national, with assistance from police in other countries.

Since the DCJ was created in 1993 to search for notorious criminals, but until now only 600 have been captured.

Salvadoran deputy Flor Bonilla, of the Human Rights and Justice Committee, said the number of fugitive criminals is a reflection of the incapacity and impunity in Salvadoran judicial institutions.

Official statistics place El Salvador as one of the most violent nations in Central America, with an average of 57 homicides for each 100,000 inhabitants.
