True Ends of PPP Unclear
While the Puebla-Panama Plan
Summit spoke in favor of
improving the living conditions
of Central American people at
its meeting Wednesday, outside,
social and political
organizations denounced it as
really benefiting transnationals.
The six presidents, one vice
president and one prime minister
from Middle American countries
have gathered since yesterday in
the Mexican city of Campeche,
and signed a joint declaration
that was viewed with
condemnation by peoples
organizations.
The dozens of demonstrators
outside the Campeche Convention
Center protested both the
meeting and its agreements, as
bad for the populations of the
area s nations.
Protesters claim the PPP
responds to the interests of
transnationals and Washington's
financial organisms, while it
works to the detriment of living
conditions in Central America,
mainly reaping its natural
resources.
