Costa Rican Website Took Bets on
Father of Smith’s Daughter
An off-shore gambling website
took the controversy over the
biological father of Anna Nicole
Smith's baby and placed betting
odds on it.
WagerWeb.com, a gambling website
based in San José, took wagers
regarding who was the real
father of Dannielynn Smith.
On Tuesday, Larry Birkhead
announced that DNA test results
showed with 99.9 percent
certainty that he is the father
of Smith's baby.
"Bettors are fascinated with
wagering on everyday news,
especially stories surrounding
celebrities," said Dave Johnson,
CEO of WagerWeb.com in a
statement on the website.
"Whether it involves celebrity
break ups or DUI arrests, our
bettors call and write us
showing overwhelming interest in
betting on celebrities."
Prior to the announcement,
Howard K. Stern was listed as
the favorite at 1:2 odds. Larry
Birkhead was running even at a
1:1 bet. Prince Frederick von
Anhalt was the underdog as a 2:1
bet.
Bettors could also put their
money on anyone else, which was
listed at 4:1 odds.
A spokesperson for WagerWeb.com
says 214 bets were placed on the
paternity results, totaling
$21,390 in bets.
According to a spokesperson for
Wynn Las Vegas casino,
American-based casinos are not
allowed to take bets on matters
regarding human life that are
determined by judges.
