Telephone Directory Now Online
Without fanfare or telling
anyone about the service, the
Instittuto Costarrisence de
Electricidad (ICE) this week
began to offer its telephone
listings online.
The service is called "113
digital" and allows visitors to
the state telecom monopoly's
website to enter the
name, business name or business
category of the information
sought.
To increase the search, the form
asks for the first and second
last names of the person - Costa
Ricans all have two last names -
the profession, the province
where the person lives and the
Cantón (district).
The search form also allows for
a search in all areas of the
country and in the case where
you don't know the exact
spelling of the name, the search
will look for names in with
similar pronunciations.
If you are looking for a
business but are not sure of the
name or exact spelling of the
business name, you can just
enter the category, ie "cellular
rentals" and the form will
return the following results
"CELLULAR TELEPHONE RENTALS,
CATEDRAL, CENTRAL, SAN JOSE
CENTRO".
However don't be surprised if
the information is incorrect or
out of date. Example the
Cellular Rental search returned
an old adress and old telephone
number.
The web page is in Spanish. For
those not fluent in Spanish, a
Spanish-English dictionary may
be of help in filling out the
form properly.
