Legal Win for Bolivia Assembly,
MAS
The Movement towards Socialism
(MAS) in Bolivia earned the
respect at daybreak Friday of
its absolute majority in the
Constituent Assembly and, with
the support of another six
forces, declared the nature of
the forum original and
plenipotentiary.
Such definition was reached with
156 votes for, 77 against and 17
abstentions, which the defeated
minority aims to question, so it
will be individually verified.
The approval as original,
established in the Assembly
rule, left isolated the main
opposition party, Poder
Democratico Social, the
Movimiento Nacionalista
Revolucionario and other minor
groups.
Those forces wanted to appoint
to the Assembly a derivative
nature, which would limit it to
reform without major changes.
Prior, the MAS agreed on six
central-left groups to solve the
Assembly, which was pressured by
minority groups to only reach
agreements by two thirds of
votes.
According to MAS, that formula
would give veto power to
conservative forces, which are
determined to block and
frustrate the Assembly.
Mas is engaged in organizing a
grass-root struggle for the
country's re-foundation to
counter neoliberalism.
