Nicaragua Presidential Election Comes to
Costa Rica
The Nicaraguan presidential
election that will be held on
November 5 has reached Costa
Rica, as Nicaraguans living in
Costa Rica go out looking for
votes.
Beginning tomorrow, a group of
supporters of presidential
candidate, Eduardo Montealegre,
del Partido Alianza Liberal
Nicaragüense (ALN), will be out
to rally support in La Carpio,
in la Uruca, where many
Nicaraguans live.
Delia Areano, an ALN depute,
will be leading the Montealegre
delegation in Costa Rica.
The Nicaraguan legislator said
that they will officially kick
off their "symbolic" political
campaign in La Carpio. "We will
visit areas where our Nicaraguan
brothers concentrate, and there
we hope to convince them to vote
for Eduardo Montealegre and to
insist to their families in
Nicaragua to do the same", said
Areano.
Areano added that they will also
visit the northern zone where
thousands of Nicaraguans work
and live.
The Nicaraguan legislator was
received by Costa Rican
officials with open arms. The
president of the Costa Rican
Legislative Assembly, Francisco
Antonio Pacheco, officially
welcome the ALN militants, along
with representatives of the
Cámara de Comercio y la de
Industrias, who are being asked
to allow Nicaraguan workers time
from work to cast their votes in
November
Areano said that the Montealegre
campaign is based on a proposal
to distribute the new wealth
generated by business in
investment in Nicaragua. "We
offer more and better jobs with
Montealegre", said Areano.
With a little over a month
before the elections,
Montealegre is trailing former
president Daniel Ortega 26.5% to
Ortega's 30.9% of the decided
voters.
