Municipal Land Dispute Continues
At nine this morning there will
be a showdown between the
businessman who purchased the
lot that makes up part of the
San José municipal offices on
Avenida 10 and the municipality.
Guillermo Sanabria said
yesterday that he would, in the
company of a judge from the
Juzgado Civil de Mayor Cuantía
and the Fuerza Pública (police)
to evict the municipality from
"his" land, land that he
purchased following an appeal
for expropriation that was won
by its former owner.
A municipality spokesperson said
that they do not recognize the
claims for the lands and any
action will be in bad faith. The
spokesperson said that the
municipality has owned the lands
since 1991 and is duly noted in
the land registry.
Rafael Arias, assistant to San
José mayor, Johnny Araya, said
that if in fact Ricardo Rigg
Gondrez sold the lands to
Guillermo Sanabria illegally,
they municipality will be
charging the persons involved
with fraud.
Arias said the lands belong to
the municipality, purchasing it
directly from María Elena
Rodríguez Rojas, wife of Álvaro
Aguilar, who is now deceased,
and the original owner of the
land in dispute.
