Operation Miracle Gives Sight to
Nicaraguans
Forty Nicaraguan patients of low
income came to Havana Tuesday to
benefited from the free
ophthalmology surgery, as part
of Operation Miracle.
The program is an initiative of
the Cuban and Venezuelan
governments intended to assist a
million poor Latin Americans who
would have never had the
opportunity to afford such
costly operations in their
countries.
Since June 4, more than twenty
flights have taken nearly a
thousand Nicaraguans with
complex ocular problems, like
cataracts or eye growth, to the
Caribbean island and to Caracas.
On Tuesday patients from the
departments of Managua,
Matagalpa, Leon and Nueva
Segovia traveled to Cuba.
