Independence Day Holiday
Tomorrow
Tomorrow is an "official"
holiday - Independence Day - in
Costa Rica. Banks, businesses
and all government offices will
be closed.
Some retailers will remain open
for business. Malls like
Multiplaza in Escazú, San Pedro
Mall and Terra Mall in the east
will all be open as usual.
Avenida Segunda in downtown San
José will be closed off
completely beginning at 8am to
make way for the marchers and
dancers that will be part of the
Independence Day celebrations.
Similar celebrations will be
going on in all parts of the
country as Costa Ricans and
Central America honours their
Independence from Spain.
September 15 is one of those
holidays that is not moved to
the following Monday and is
celebrated on the day it falls.
President Oscar Arias,
government officials and invited
dignitaries will be taking part
in the official Independence Day
ceremonies in the area of the
Parque Nacional, across from the
Legislative Assembly building
and the future site of the new
government offices.
