Security Officials Meet in
Guatemala
Guatemala President Oscar Berger
opened a meeting of military and
police officials from 10 Central
American countries Monday, to
analyze the main facets of
regional security.
The three-day meeting is
intended to set a strategy to
deal with the common threats for
these countries, including drug
and arms trafficking, and
organized crime and human trade,
said Defense Minister Francisco
Bermudez.
He announced the possibility of
establishing this month a
regional center in Guatemala for
the fight against drugs.
The meeting is attended by
representatives of the Defense
and Interior Ministries of
Mexico, Belize, Panama, El
Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua,
Costa Rica, Colombia, the
Dominican Republic and the host
nation.
