"New" GSM Customers Will Be Billed Every 22 Days
If you are a cellular telephone subscriber of the "new" GSM service, there is a surprise in store for you.

The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) - the state monopoly on telecommunications - said yesterday it will bill its 500.000 customers of the Ericsson GSM network every 22 - yes, 22, and not 30 - days.

ICE began offering the service last December and it wasn't until the third month that it began to bill customers due to a problem in the billing software. This caused problems for the institution as it could not collect all the past due months in one bill and nor could it cut service to its customers.

Claudio Bermúdez, a manager at ICE, said that the institution has been able to reduce the back pay to two months and that the new billing practice will allow customers to catch up completely by December.

Bermúdez assures that the three week billing period is perfectly legal.

Subscribers to the Alcatel (old) GSM and TDMA networks are no affected.
