National Rally Backs Hugo Chavez
Thousands of Venezuelans
assembled Saturday on Bolivar
Avenue, Caracas, to buttress the
re-election of President Hugo
Chavez on December 3.
Chavez´s supporters were called
to participate at the swearing
in ceremony of the Miranda
Command battalions and squads,
in charge of promoting the
statesman´s electoral campaign.
Despite opinion polls showing
the Venezuelan president with
support from over half of the
electorate, which paves the way
for an easy win, he urged his
followers to work for a rout in
the face of the US pressures and
plans to make a new tenure
illegal.
For Chavez, only socialism can
wipe out unemployment, poverty
and the paradox of a wealthy
nations with millions of people
living in deplorable conditions.
However, Manuel Rosales, single
opposition candidate and
governor of Zulia state,
considers that Venezuela should
open to foreign capital and set
an alliance with the US.
He knocks cooperation with Latin
American nations, especially
with Cuba.
