Pre-Historical Fossil
A tooth of a Desmostylus Hesperus, a manatee-like mammal who lived 5 million to 7 million years ago, was found in the Costa Rican South Pacific by geologist Ana Valerio and paleontologist and geologist Cesar Laurito.

This is the first time that a fossil of the species is found in a tropical region, because until now they had been located in Japan, Siberia, Oregon, California, and Baja California.

The finding was confirmed by Daryl Domning of the Natural History Museum of the Smithsonian and by Brian Beatty of the University of Chicago.
