Hondurans Urge to Save the Children
Social prevention in Honduras should include rescuing the thousands of street youth and children at risk of being absorbed by organized crime, the National Prevention Program (PNP) announced on Wednesday.

Nolvia Cruz, who runs the PNP, asserted that if the government wants to lay the foundations so the future Honduran society can enjoy permanent security, it should create policies and take actions with measures oriented to prevent crime.

She called to end the government´s lack of concern about the Program, which encourages, coordinates, and supervises the efforts of 11 organizations in charge of stopping the increase of delinquency, and rehabilitating those who have fallen into its clutches.

The director of the aka Anti-Mara (anti-gang) program said the change must be part of the actions to protect young people.

She said the government should give the necessary aid, and not just worry about losing international cooperation support.

Cruz said the essence of this issue is that we should give prevention the importance it has, as the only means to reach sustainable public safety.

She asserted that the Honduran Executive is still able to correct the wrong turn, which has led to the current crisis.
