Switzerland beats Costa Rica 2-0
in friendly

Frei scored a goal each
Wednesday to lead Switzerland to
a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica in
a friendly.
Streller gave his team the lead
with a header in the 12th minute
after a cross from Daniel Gygax.
Frei scored in the 39th despite
claims of offsides from the
Central Americans.
Switzerland won the four-nation
tournament that also included
Austria and Venezuela. Austria,
who will co-host the 2008
European Championship with
Switzerland, was third behind
Venezuela.
Costa Rica's best chance came in
the 61st minute, but Alvaro
Saborio's goal was disallowed
for offsides.
Switzerland had a late chance in
injury time when Alberto
Regazzoni sent the ball past the
Costa Rican goalkeeper, but it
bounced off the post.
While most European teams played
European Championship
qualifiers, Switzerland and
Austria qualify automatically
for Euro 2008 as co-hosts.
