San José Promises To Fix Roads
The Municipalidad de San José (Muni) has promised to invest ¢300 million colones (us$577.000 dollars) in repairing the roads of the city.

To that end, the Muni has already purchases 12.000 tonnes of material to fill an entire four square blocks of the downtown area.

The area with the highest amount of traffic and greatest affected by the heavy rain will given priority.

A Muni spokesperson said, that in addition, they hope to use ¢100 million colones collected from traffic fines to install signalization in San Francisco de Dos Rios, Hatillos, Barrio Córdoba and La Uruca.

The work to be carried out by the Muni is in addition to the ongoing work by the Ministerio de Obras Pública y Transportes (MOPT), which has been underway for the last month, in painting lanes and patching potholes in highways around San José.

Critics say that is just a show by the new government, carrying out work that is visible to show that the government is doing something and that as in the past, once the "face lift" is finished, there will not be any maintenance and the road system will fall again to disrepair.
