Consensus Candidate to
Security Council is "Important"
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Bruno Stagno Wednesday said
finding a consensus candidate to
occupy a temporary position at
the United Nations Security
Council for Latin America and
the Caribbean - a seat Venezuela
and Guatemala are disputing - is
"important."
"I do not believe it is
convenient for the region to
replace the two present
candidates for two other
candidates. The important thing
here is to reach consensus on
one single candidate," Stagno
told reporters.
He denied claims that Guatemala
proposed Costa Rica to take its
place at the competition, and
explained: "I do not have that
information because there has
been no official petition," Efe
reported.
Stagno hoped Venezuela and
Guatemala to continue talks to
find a solution to the stalemate
at the election, which was
resumed on Wednesday.
