PAC Asked to Fight TLC
Heading toward a general strike next week against the free trade agreement with the United States, Costa Rican social organizations criticized the Partido Acción Cuidadana (PAC) -  led by Ottón Solís, who fought his presidential campaign on defeating the TLC -  for its lackluster participation in the campaign.

Several union leaders, meeting to plan details of the of national protests scheduled for October 23-24, said the publicity was not as high as desired and demanded more participation of the political party.

The PAC organization and deputies are the political strength in this social struggle, declared labor leader Jorge Arguedas.

Lorenzo Cambronero, former leader of the Union of Small and Medium Producers, pronounced in this fight "there s no place for diplomacy."

Union leaders Eva Carazo, Mauricio Hernandez and Cynthia Crespo also demanded that PAC maintain its role in the fight against the treaty with the US.
