Mejia Godoy Hospitalized in
Nicaragua
Singer and songwriter Carlos
Mejia Godoy aspirant to the
Nicaraguan vice presidency by
the Sandinista Renewing party
was urgently hospitalized
suffering from renal colic.
According to a press release
issued by the Movement and
quoted by La Primerisima Radio
Station, Mejia Godoy, at the age
of 63, remains stable and under
medical control.
The artist returned to Nicaragua
from Costa Rica on Thursday
after offering a spectacle to
the Nicaraguan community living
in that nation and carrying out
propaganda activities
accompanied by his partner
Edmundo Jarquin.
Mejia Godoy assumed the
candidacy in July in
substitution for Jarquin
similarly replacing the original
candidate, Managua´s former
Mayor Herty Lewites, after his
death from a heart attack.
According to the surveys, the
MRS, founded by former leaders
and members of the Sandinista
National Liberation Front, and
the Constitutionalist Liberal
Party, headed by Jose Rizo, are
the contenders disputing the
third place of vote intention.
Meanwhile, Sandinista leader
Daniel Ortega, followed by
Eduardo Montealegre from the
Nicaraguan Liberal Allinace,
heads the electoral race to be
decided on November 5.
Eden Pastora, representative of
the Alternativa para el Cambio
Party holds the fifth and last
position.
However, none of the candidates
has achieved 35 percent of the
votes needed to win the
elections and so predictions do
not rule out a second round.
