News Follow Up: BoS Employees Yet To Be Paid
On Wednesday news came that Nine.com parent L&G is closing its Costa Rican operation as it will be merged with its sister company, VIP management. The closure is a result of the recent arrested by United States officials of gambling executives in Costa Rica.

The first closure was of BetOnSports (BoS) on August 10, when 1.450 employees were given notice and doors to their San Pedro offices shut.

BOS said it would make good on its commitment to pay their employees. The payment was to have come within weeks of closing.

However, it has been now almost two months and no one has been paid. Yohan Camacho told the La Nación "as far as I know we are all nt he same situation: no one has been paid. When asked we are told that no one knows when payment will happen."

Camacho added that some of his fellow co-workers have opted to buy out assets in lieu of payment as the company continues to liquidate, while others are looking at legal options.

The problem faced by many former BoS employees is that they earned well at there and finding another equal paying job is difficult to impossible. Also a number got into debt, purchasing vehicles, real estate and running up their credit cards, based on the high pay and now are struggling to meet their obligations.

Franciso Conejo, a lawyer for BoS, says that the company will make good and pay everyone but is asking for patience. Conejo added that the company is asking for 90 days and it hasn't even been 60 since the closure. Conejo said that the biggest problem is logistics, there are so many employees and now have little staff to handle the situation.

For their part, the Ministerio de Trabajo (Labour Ministry) has been in contact with the company and corroborates plans that the company has intentions to pay. However, they have not received any complaints from former employees and are powerless act.
