Police Director Accused of Making Death Threats
The director of the Fuerza Pública (police), Osvalod Alpizar, continues to be figured in the case of death threats received by former police commander, Alexis Ugalde.

The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) has been investigating the case against Alpizar and yesterday got more complicated after investigators found a third telephone number used to call Ugalde belongs to an Alpizar family member.

The first two telephone numbers identified by investigators that was allegedly used to make death threats against Ugalde, belong to the Ministerio de Seguridad Pública and assigned to the police director.

OIJ investigators have used telephone records by the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) - the state telephone company - to trace calls received by Ugalde. All three numbers used to make the calls were cellular telephones and are tied to Alpizar.

Alpizar has kept quiet on the matter, not making any declarations to the press, though two weeks ago he denied making any such calls.

Meanwhile, ministro de Seguridad Pública, Fernando Berrocal, is analyzing the case against his police director and his future at the post while the case continues to be investigated. In addition, the minister has asked for a report that ties Alpizar to a gasoline robbery some 20 years back.
