ICE Stirs Up Sector With 100MW
Thermo Project
Costa Rica's state power company
ICE is studying the possibility
of building a 100MW thermo
project, a company official told
Business News Americas.
The project would help meet
power demand that is growing at
roughly 5% a year, the official
said.
Generation projects under
construction such as hydro
projects Cariblanco (80MW) and
Pirrís (128MW) will not meet
demand, the official added.
Cariblanco's first unit is due
to come online in the second
half of next year and Pirrís'
first unit in 2009.
ICE has identified three
possible thermo project sites
and is analyzing whether bunker
or diesel should be used.
Further, the company is
reviewing financing options.
ICE could launch a tender for
the project's construction in
March next year but
environmental authorities would
have to approve the project
first, the official said.
